Sadly they rate overall performance. Not medical degrees.

It happened many times, but FM-UOC was last close in 1989. Another riot from JVP? They are dead and buried as a movement now.

Oh relly? I have passed final of the UOC exam with a 2nd upper class. And now I am doing my post-graduate in Clinical Medicine. Is that enough for you?

ROFLMAO. I qualified for in 1997 with London AL's with a mark eligible for any British University. Asia's 5th and world wide 17th. Now weep and pee a little. BTW, I was 11th in the island ranking from A/L as well. Then I decided to save 8M rupees for my parents and entered UOC.

My dear friend.

This is not the first time starting a private medical faculty in Sri Lanka

Earlier on 1983/1984, the first PMC was started as North Colombo Medical College. There were some students without having 4 A/L passes. If the same thing happen this time, who will be responsible for the innocent patients' lives.

Medicine is not just another degree. Eventually you end up with clinical environment gathering with innocent lives of people. So the person who deals with them should be capable of.

You know what happend to NCMC (North Colombo Medicl College), it was absorbed to the government and now it's affliated with the Uni of Kelaniya. Last year, recruited the 20th batch and this time it'll be the 21st batch. At that time the government didn't have any other option due to the resistance of Medical Students and whole the society was against it.

Sadly 9+ BRILLIANT Medical students killed at the end. This time also we don't like to loose even a single valuable life of any of our brother/sister. That's it.

Yes it's good, but that will never happen. Since SLMC has not recognised this institute and it's degree, it's not going to be recognised by a lot of medical board in other countries as well. Until they get SLMC regonition, this will be a failed excercise

This is for those who thinks Private Medical Colleges are bad!

U all say that PMC are bad. and u all raise few questions on this issues.
First thing is u all r sayin that PMC s will effect badly on poor people.

Sorry to say that is the biggets fat lie I have ever heard. Think like this.

If there are PMC s in Sri Lanka, then rich students wont bother much about

entering a local university. because they already know that there is a PMC

for them, so that they can get a degree from them. So because of that

demotivation, more poor student percentage can go into local universities

than this.

Also u people are crying for poor students. Can u tell me anyone, who gives

free of charge medicine for a person atleast once a day? If u really care

about poor, then y cant u all do that?

Also u all says that any bugger who have money, can get a medical degree by

this. are u all crazy? Students must study atleast 3 years by going through

EXAMS and assignments and all. By giving a bag of money only u cant get a

degree. you have to pass those exams.

Also think bout this. There are studentd(even my friends) who have migrated

abroad for a medicine degree. If there is a medical uyniversity here, they

dont wanna go there and the money will save inside the country.

At last I have to say is this. THe people who are aginst PMC s, doing that

just for "JEALOUSY". They dont wanna share their bloody wages and money

among others. they think if there are more doctors than this, then there

will be no "state" for this job and the money they get now will deveide

among those.

THe people who realy do care about Sri Lankan people must help on building

PMCs.

As i read the posts in this thread, what i see is

1. Most of the people who commented are talking about PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES, not about the PMCs
2. The others who argued know nothing about the regulations/contents of a MEDICAL Degree
3. And sad to say rest of the people are the real loosers, They failed to enter government universities, so now driven by the hate & anger towards GMC students, shout that PMC is good!!!

But i would like to ask something from the 1, 2 groups and other people who justviewed this thread
Are you ready to risk your life, your loved ones' life, by getting treatment from a poorly qualified, less experienced person??
( if this is not clear think like this... igena ganna oya/oyalage lamai yanne/yawanne qualified, honda reputation 1k thiyena teacher kenek gaawata da? qualification nathi kenek gawata da??? )

Those who bark upon saying pmc is bad and gmc is the best, must have forgotten the issues that have arisen recently in the gov sector...
i saw like few weeks back in a sunday newspaper the gov had gazzeted a new scheme to enter into the medical faculties controlled by ugc... thats if anyone has jus 3 SSS's in their A/L results they can enter into universities to do MBBS(ceylon) after registering on Kotalawala defence acadamy... and they will be signed to a bond and will be entered into GMC's...
before that, even last year also it happened...
one example:
a person i know got his father served in military but retired by the time he did his A/L, , and a brother currently serving in the military... His A/L results was 2 C's and one S as i myself cheked his result with internet on his request...
But he got into a medical Faculty and currently studying there...
Soo as for the students who will get their foreign med degrees, we can check the country of the degree and decide to go for them or not....
But What's the situation when these low resulted ppl get out and start practising and what will be th position then???

Soo finally what i see is the more critical and dangerous position is this...
First try to do something for this instead of Barking to the owner of the house untill the thief gets out....!!!

bro please dont talk about the things that you dont know

1st the kothalawala defence University people are not normal medical students!! They are army doctors.So not related to this matter, But to your knowledge i/ll tell what you dont know

In this year 25 students entered Kothalawala defence university and they are now in University of Ruhuna, Faculty of Medicine, Karapitiya, Till the government supply the infrastructure to the Kothalawala Defence University

And listen carefully, 1000+ were applied, and only 400 were called for the interview! Their knowledge was tested by 3 written papers for 3 subjects, 1 IQ paper, 1 English paper and the applicants who passed the exam then went through a physical test, then the top 25 were selected. There was nothing wrong in the procedure

And the 25 who were selected have reasonably good results in A/Ls.
Im proud to say that 2 out of 25 are my class mates, and they both have A B B, and within the top 1000 (island rank) But due to current system they couldnt enter med faculty( 1 selected to dental, other to food science-pera uni), so they applied to Kothalawala University and got selected! So you are wrong in your point that 3s people entered medical faculty!
And most importantly they will get not only knowledge but also clinical exposure better than the PMC students
And those army doctors will serve the ARMY, so i dont think that army chiefs are stupid 2 risk their soldiers lives in 3S people.

And you are right in 1 thing, they did signed a bond, thats the procedure

We aint barking, if we are selfish and jelous , we would have stand against this!! But why should we stand against the fellow students who have higher qualifications than the people who go abroad or go to PMC???
We are not hesitated to share the limited facilities we have with those smart ( mentally and physically) energitic people

Finally you are the one who is barking with out knowing the truth!!
And you can find out the details of the 25 students from Defence ministry( qualifications) by an official legal way
