Athula Siriwardena
Creative in his many themes, Athula Siriwardena will stage his exhibition of paintings 'Sensations 2002' at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery from Thursday July 11 to Monday July 15. A former Lake House comic strip artist who authored Palingu Menike, Athula Siriwardena's exhibition is a compilation of 60 exhibits of portraits and landscapes in rich hues of pastels.
A self taught artist he is grateful to Stanley Abeysinghe and S. P. Charles for instructing him on the finer points of pastel paintings which has held him in good stead over the years.
The 60 exhibits portray a sensitive expression of light and dark even in detail, so essential in capturing the mood of the overall picture. Among the titles on display are Negrotha, Green Eyes portrait of a girl from Afghanistan which was selected by the National Geographic Magazine, Sweeping, Indian Girl, Masks, Old Wall, Perehera and Waiting.
