How much the +12V rating ?

I doesn't know about MSI 9800GT. but there are some 9800GT cards that require
more than 300W for card. it need at least +12V 40A capability

I think its a old PSU. because +5V 34A rating. nowdays +5V doesn't require more power.
    +12V is important.

I don't know how much power require for your VGA. its very dificult to find. but you can
check your PSU. if it high quality one, it may working..

tell me your PC details, and your VGA details and VGA price
(price is a better way to identify power of VGA. power cards are expensive)

If you use this PSU for your computer, more than 10A current of 12V line used for
motherboard,CPU,HDD etc., @ heavy loaded CPU. So only 4A for VGA (therotically)
Its may not enough for VGA.

modern PSU designed for deliver more current for 12V supply. old PSU designed for
more current for 5V. 34A +5V not need to your system. 15A enough. but get a PSU
    with highest current +12V capability.

you can power up your system with 9800GT card. but its may not stable. otherwise
it will kill the PSU if it low quality one.

Finally, try to get 30A 12V PSU. if you can't find, try to get highest possible +12V current.

many people doesn't think about this side and 90% sales guys at shops are doesn't know about that. I think you asked good question from this forum.

DVD drive require only 1.5A 12V when full load read/write so it not important. as my knowledge, +12V loads here:

Motherboard : 5~10A (depends on RAM size, chipset)
CPU : 7A (DualCore/Core2Duo all CPUs TDP 65W @ full load) 90W CPU require more power
    HDD : 1~1.5A
    DVD : 1.5A

    My PSU is a modded mercury 400W +12V 24A.

    My system specifications:

    CPU: Dual Core E5200 45nm @ 3.12 GHz (with a Pentium D Cooler)
    MB: Foxconn G31MX-K 2.0
    VGA : Unitech GeForce 7300GT 256MB GDDR2 (400/800MHz) + modded
    HDD : Maxtor 250GB SATA + Hitachi 160GB SATA
Monitor: Fujitsu Siemens 19" CRT FLAT
    Optical: Samsung DVD-RW
Internet: Mobitel HSDPA 1GB Free (using a faulty 3G phone)

I hope you r in SL, The Mercury 400W is not real 400W. The sticker only indicates it as 400W. But the PSU is only about 200W. You need 2 get a geunuine 450W or 500W PSU to use the 9800 VGA.
