Maj.Gen. Parakrama reinstated
Former Eastern security forces Commander Major General Parakrama Pannipitiya, who was suspended from service after being arrested for alleged involvement in treasure hunting in February this year, has been reinstated with effect from last Thursday.Military sources said he had been attached to the Log Command of the Kosgama Army Camp until further notice.
Major General Pannipitiya was arrested while he was allegedly in treasure hunting in the Weliweriya area. Later he was produced before Courts and jailed until July this year.
However, he was released after Courts later found him not guilty.
A Court Martial was also underway by the Army for several allegations including misuse of military vehicles.
During the humanitarian operation to liberate the East, Major General Pannipitiya was the Eastern Province Security Forces Commander.
