The police said it had received a complaint from the army stating that former Army Chief General Sarath Fonseka was harboring a group of army deserters at his official residence. Police media spokesman SSP I.M Karunaratne said two police constables had visited the house in Colombo together with the Military Police to investigate the claims but had returned as the house was closed.

Sources close to the Retired General and now Presidential Candidate told Daily Mirror online that at least 150 personnel from the Military Police had attempted to check the Buller’s road residence of Fonseka saying that they have evidence that a number of army deserters are under his protection and serving in his security unit.

However the officers and the security personnel at the former General’s house prevented the military police personnel from entering the residence, sources further added.

Military Police raid Gen. Fonseka’s resident to remove soldiers providing him security

A short while ago the official residence of common candidate retired Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Fonseka was encircled by deploying more than 200 personnel from Military Police say reports.
According to reports the raid has been carried out to remove soldiers who have been deployed to provide security to Gen. Fonseka.

However, officers of Military Police had said the raid was carried out as information had been received that soldiers who had not reported for duties had been present at Gen. Fonseka’s residence.
