Say to the desert Arabs who lagged behind: "Ye shall be summoned (to fight) against a people given to vehement war: then shall ye fight, or they shall submit. Then if ye show obedience, Allah will grant you a goodly reward, but if ye turn back as ye did before, He will punish you with a grievous Penalty."

I know you are picking up versus from internet.This was already answered many times, this was revealed at the time of a Peace agreement(Hutahibiya) between muslim and non muslim.when non muslim breach the peace treaty Allah ask muslim to fight them. This is obvious,even any current commander will do the same,thinking that breaking the peace treaty will not prevail peace and they will harm us.

Swedish Prophet Muhammad cartoonist 'head-butted'

A Swedish artist who created an international furore by depicting the Prophet Muhammad as a dog was assaulted as he delivered a university lecture.
Lars Vilks says he was head-butted by an audience member as he spoke about the limits of artistic freedom.
The cartoonist's glasses were broken, but he was not injured.
Mr Vilks has been threatened on numerous occasions, but the assault at Uppsala University was the first time he has been physically attacked.
The artist said a group of about 15 people had been shouting and trying to interrupt the lecture, which was attended by about 250 people.
"A man ran up and threw himself over me. I was head-butted and my glasses were broken," Mr Vilks was quoted as saying by the AP news agency.
A video clip of the attack was posted on the website of a Swedish newspaper.
It showed police using pepper spray and batons to control an angry crowd shouting "God is great" in Arabic as Mr Vilks was led away. Two people were detained.

Hello, My dear muslims were just innocent it is not that Muslims insulted someone here, it is that Artist insulted Prophet Mohammed purposely and gained the anger from muslims.really he is supposed to get punishment.The samething you will do if he abuse your budhdha as well.at least they restricted punishing only with strike.tht is enough to show the anger...
