Customs Duty At BIA

Hey guys im thinking of getting a 42 inch LED/LCD tv from malaysia and bring it to lanka, i want to know if i will get taxed since it is only a single item + personal use? if i am taxed how much do u think the tax will be?

defa Tax wadinawa. how long u have gone from SL? no matter the duration for those TV they charge TAX. one of my friend bought one and he had to pay Rs 13,000 at the air port. damn robbery. better if u have allowance buy the 42" at the duty free machan. that the best option. warranty also there.

they even taxed him he had 1 year allowance also. he was charged Rs 13,000 at site. yes 42. better u buy frm duty free to be on the safe side.

tax also depends on the custom officer also...... sometimes they release the stuff without tax, sm dont

try to make it as a used one, i think the amount will get lower.

i checked the singer duty free website and they have only one choice of LCD and that too is out of stock!! im looking for a Full HD (1080p) Samsung 40 or 42 inch LED/LCD, anyone know if any shops at the duty free carry this item?

thanks rochel1977 but unfortunately even they dont have much choice! just one more thing, since some officers tax u and some don't would i have to declare it at customs?? or just walk through the "nothing to declare" and hope that the officer doesn't tell me to go and declare it? Sorry for asking too many questions guys, just want to make sure

IF there is a good custom officer u might get lucky. if u dont then keep some extra cash in hand. don't go to bribe them. just say u got this for a cheap price from a sale bla bla and jsut if u can print a false recipt quoating a less price. then u might get lucky. becasue electronic items such as these they check.

been away for only 4-5 months. i should keep around 20k in hand then i suppose, is there a specific rate that they will charge me at? you said your friend got charged 13k, so maybe around 5%?

doubt it machan. my friend went on his anual leave. after 1 year also they charged Rs 13,000/-. see. not sure in ur case machan. don't take a risk. see if u can arrange some custom person that u know in SL. he might help u in getting the TV out.
