not enough to bring us to the same category as developed countries as lifestyle/dietary patterns haven't changed.
after which point? I remember researching on this topic around a decade ago and we were miles ahead compared to our neighbouring countries. i am guessing it has been around 75 ish post war period.
Life expectancy hasn't changed much when the child deaths are excluded. This is the case in almost all the countries. Even back then in early 1900s or even in 1800s 1700s people lived till they age 70-80 but the child mortality was high.
But present 70 yo’s are much fitter than 70 yo’s from the past generation I feel. And people look younger in general….Today’s 70 yo’s look like 60yo’s from a decade back… something like that…

Mostly correct, life expectancy of 35 does not mean most people passed away at 35. Those who survived childhood lived relatively long lives.
Life expectancy at x age corrects for this. In SL even the life expectancy at 15 have seen a dramatic increase after 50s. We have to remember that maternal mortality has seen a rapid fall after that period and that's a huge contributor.
I believe this is mainly due to the water supply. Tap water often flows through iron pipes that were historically joined using lead solder. Because many people drink hot tap water directly, there is a high risk of lead leaching into the drinking water. I think this exposure contributes significantly to colon cancer rates.
