    No it wouldn't be efficient. beer can will will reflect "some" amount of wifi signals to a different direction. Your dongle on the hand, is trying to capture signal from the cell tower. It'd work if you manage to place a large reflector behind your nearest cell tower :P use a yagi antenna.
