After shooting his mother, Nancy Lanza, age 54, Adam drove her car to the school.[8][9] The killing of Nancy Lanza brought the number of victims to 27. Identification belonging to his older brother, Ryan Lanza, was found on Adam Lanza's body.[10]
In early reports by media organizations, Ryan Lanza was mistakenly identified as the shooter.[11] He later voluntarily agreed to questioning by the New Jersey Police, the Connecticut State Police and FBI. He was not considered a suspect nor taken into custody.
