(no offense, this is the truth) later when you are less pained, you will realise it

Mama mehema oyage points tikata debate karannam:

Income distribution difference is not the root of unhappiness
Salli or wealth thibbath minissu happy naha

Happiness kiyanne ape athulaanthayen ena deyak saha eka apita mawaa gana haki
Happiness depends on the person Machanz :)

Even if a person is poor, he can be and act cheerful...

And the other thing, if you minimise the unhappiness difference,
it means the happy people get less happy.. do you get it? :)

So you are telling us to make others less happy in order to make another set of people happier?
    You are a dictator :P:rofl:

    well,

"Salli or wealth thibbath minissu happy naha"

they are happier than the poor.

"Happiness depends on the person Machanz :)"

happiness depends on infinite factors  im talking about one of the
most affected and 'systematically controllable' factors.

Even if a person is poor, he can be and act cheerful...

yes, rarely. just because someone laugh dosen't mean he is happy, and also ask him about satisfaction.

"So you are telling us to make others less happy in order to make another set of people happier?"
yes, obviously rich people don't like it. that why we still have capitalist society:rofl:

this is my understanding. no 2 regions are similar. water resources, plants, land they are all different and therefore it's obvious that the same culture and lifestyle won't succeed in every corner in this planet. people living in one region need their own lifestyle with their own culture while people living in another region would wreak havoc both on them and the environment if tried to live according to a culture that's strange to that region.

but unfortunately that's what we are doing right now. we are promoting a culture for every society. our modern culture is maintained at a great cost. we have to transport resources over thousands of miles just to keep the society going for few hours. one simple mistake is enough to bring destruction to this modern way of living and it's only a matter of time until it happens.

what we should promote is diversity, people living in different areas according to different cultures that best utilize the environment present at those different areas. societies should be self sustainable and we should understand a non zero sum game is not possible forever in a limited planet.

this way of living is popularized by colonialists who thought colonialism would last forever. but experience taught them otherwise and they had to give up on that paradigm. but still the mindset that made them think colonialism would succeed forever is naturally making them think colonialism over natural resources would fuel our modern culture forever. but this really is not the case. we should adapt to a new way of living that doesn't see nature as a slave.

Machanz :), Yes, definitely have to agree with your statement that "self sustainable society" is the way to go as far as I can understand
I might be wrong because globalisation has made self-sustainabiltiy a hopeless dream

Even if it is impossible in some scenarios, almost self-sustainbility is better than nothing...

I think your stance on eco-friendliness etc. is great and it should be so
but we have no control over the actual (evil) rulers of our global society
Whether we like it or not, evil nature-destroying agendas were there before, it is now, and it will be there until the end of this current physcial world.

Machanz, colonialists were there from the start of recorded history and it is still there...
Colonialists, mama kiyanne siraawatama adirajya waadin, oya kiyana widihata hithuwa colonialism would last (almost) forever and they are correct :)

Today, every area is under direct or indirect colonialism :)
There are good aspects there too :) but also bad aspects and we do not have the power to alter it... :(
Btw we are thinking and debating like this because of colonialism in Sri Lanka

I don't understand your point on diversity, are you saying diversity as in multiculturalism or sustainability / resources-wise?

I meant happiness... the emotion / feeling of happiness.. which can be generated at will by a change of heart/mind :) (try it) :P

I think you should first define what you mean by the terms you use - happiness etc.

Good rich people will like it but some will not like it  because most rich people worked very hard to get there and they are giving back to society :)

i used the word happiness in a general sense,,, the common good feeling.

from your input i feel that u haven't thought about the philosophy behind the socialism.

people are lucky to be born into rich good families, and unlucky to be born into bad families. even if u consider other factors, its fundamentally luck which matters.

even if i consider your example.

"because most rich people worked very hard to get there"

ability to work hard itself is a skill. some people don't have it.

if u are poor, uneducated and don't have the energy to 'rise from nowhere' , u will hardly live a good life in this society.

its inhumane to let 'luck' determine the quality of human life.

Btw we are thinking and debating like this because of colonialism in Sri Lanka

I don't understand your point on diversity, are you saying diversity as in multiculturalism or sustainability / resources-wise?

colonialism cannot last for a long time. colonialism was maintained by acquiring more and more land, depleting the resources that has grown their for many centuries within a short period of time. they would have to keep continue invading other countries if this way was to continue and the number of lands that can be captured is not infinite. they are limited and colonialism was doomed to fail after all possible countries were captured.

this is exactly what happened with rome. and we are doing the same thing regarding natural resources. natural resources are not infinite and we too are doomed to fail. But in our case it's not running out of resources what would destroy our culture, it's unprecedented effects like global warming which would bring the destruction to us. so in that sense modern way of living is more limited than the colonialism.

it's true civilizations have been invading other countries long before britain or spain or rome. but their reasons were different. they invaded a country simply steal some particular thing or as a revenge. most of them didn't even aware of the possibility of maintaining their country by stealing other countries' resources because their mindset was against such a concept. for example columbus's fleet was an ant compared to what china had around 1200 and 1300. but then current emperor didn't invade other countries to maintain their civilization because their mindset was completely different. and if i remember correctly that civilization lasted more than 1000 years. compare it with our modern global civilization. i think ours is not older than 500 years and we are already facing unprecedented global threats. perhaps we would hit the record as the most advanced and most destructive civilization that has ever existed on this planet.

what i meant by diversity is the importance of maintaining cultures other than dominating western one. the problems we are facing today are results of the western way of living and those problems cannot be solved inside that paradigm. our path inevitably leads towards a self sustaining small units.

this is an overly simplistic picture of the real situation. I'm not praising socialism. but you are missing the damage capitalism is doing to our eco system. almost all the problems humanity faces today are results of capitalism. global warming, climate change, species going extinct. try to how something affects the whole not just parts.

isn't it obvious ? they have the cheap labor and they are the leading figure in the manufacturing process. corporations in other countries have externalized their costs into china, india and such other countries where cheap labor is abundant.
