The Defence Ministry is taking steps to get money due from Avant Garde to the Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Limited as per agreements between them, State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardena said in Parliament yesterday.
He was responding to a question by JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
He said
Avant-Garde has recorded an income of Rs. 11,329 million from April 2011 to March 2014 and a profit of Rs. 1,260 million for the same period.
Chief Opposition Whip and JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said Avant Garde is bound to share a certain percentage of its profit with Rakna Lanka as of the agreement between them. He noted this
money has not been paid over the past years.
The State Minister said the Defence Ministry is taking measures in this regard, adding that
Avant Garde also owes a certain amount to the Navy.
The Minister agreed to table the agreements between Avant Garde and Rakna Lanka and the amounts due from the company.
As of the answer provided by the Minister,
Avant Garde had paid Rs. 42 million as the Economic Service Charges from April 2011 to March 2015. It had paid
Rs. 20 million as Divisional Tax from April 2011 to March 2014.
