This is correct. There is no import ban, but this is a 'restriction' to international trade . These are the few measures that are left to the govt to address a much bigger problem of paying ISBs. (our ratings were so low we cant float another ISB
The problems was how we spend money got form ISBs (ventures like Mattala, Harbour, Pohottuwa, were clear examples . But I know there were lot of financial irregularities in CHOGAM , Commonwealth Games Bid(Mr. Cabral's infamous conga dance in when we lost to Aus) and Silredi case , Corrupiton in Srilankan to purchase more than 20 brand new Airplanes!! Greek Bonds .... etc (This corruption was admitted by Airbus in UK High Court and gave details and money transfer track - what did we do ? We just arrested then chairman and his wife and no action filed when evidence of Airbus!! and many more. this is what we should stop. If not in financial mismanagement will be ramphant and Financial Regulaitons of the govt will be a dead letter!!
What has happened has happened no one can now do anything , but do we learn a lesson? a very big No. It is time for our media (including social media) to show us the real problem not patch up work of govt and criticise or praise short term measures.(eg chemical fertilizer ban, vehicle import ban, restrictions on LC , restrictions on banks specially on FC etc)
