There must be practical challenges with making a labour intensive service like the railways, fully privatised.

People do pay to travel but whether that income can cover the full cost of the service, I am not sure

I heard long time ago, that there are 10 workers to do 1 job in railways, so if that's true, laying them off with severance payment etc., in a highly unionised service must be quite a challenge

have you seen dead bodies taken on stretchers when someone fall from the train?
have you traveled inside the train,but soaking in rain water since you cant close the window?

I assume if the trains are well managed, considerable traffic congestion can be reduced. Also expenses on personal vehicle is also be reduced. You can double the current prices, and manage trains well and yet I'm sure you will see more daily commuters on trains.

with 2 tracks, its totally about management. you can send trains once every 5-10 mins.
more buses means more congestion. Also they need to be properly managed, you know how local buses compete during peak hours. And wait in certain bus stops more than they should. Also the quality of the vehicle.

Privatizing wan't happen in Sri lankan railway.
Its not the cost for trains and staff. Think about railway network. "උන බම්බු ගේට්ටුකරුවන්" to GMR . Cannot increase the ticket fee.

I dont take social media conversations seriously. I have enough and more problems in real life to deal with.
