There are instances that can be justified. But everyone wants antibiotics like lollies. There are other bad effects of antibiotics with viral diseases. The changes in the gut microbiome can impair your immunity and can worsen some viral infections.

Whatever the reasons are, there should be measures to minimise it. A disproportionately higher use of broad spectrum antibacterials is taking place becaue of the lack of checks and balances. In other countries the medical authorities question the doctors as these gets noted in their on-line systems.
The WHO has a surveillance system framework for the consumption/usage data for countries that lack the proper monitoring resource systems. High time we establish such schemes.

LOL this thread title reminded me of something. a long time ago I went to a government hospital seeking medication for common cold. I told the doctor that I had a persistent bad cough that occurred occasionally. I asked him to prescribe me an antibiotic called Zenithral which I had been prescribed before. without saying a word he wrote it on the prescription and I felt like I was the doctor. I even felt like grabbing his stethoscope from the shoulder and diagnosing myself.
