Too complex to write a quick reply. However......
A Calorie is a unit that contains 4184 Joules of energy. You may have learned it for Physics. However, when it comes to our metabolism a Calorie sometimes is not really a Calorie.
Carbs, Proteins & Fats do provide us with Calories but Vitamins & minerals do NOT. Vitamins & minerals are nutrients or supplements.
Our bodies are a complex piece of machinery and the way that these foods are absorbed plays a role in the real calories. I will just give one example.
Take Glucose and Fructose. One gram of each will have the same calories. But when we eat these two, things are different. Simpy because the way we metabolize these are different. Glucose can be metabolized by all body tissues, whereas Fructose can only be metabolized in the Liver. Fructose is more fat producing than Glucose. But Fructose has a lower glycaemic index than glucose. Don't get scared to eat fruits. No way I am implying it. Just to show the difference.
The way we metabolize various foods are different. Usually proteins use much more energy to metabolize than fats or carbs. The main thing is do some regular exercise, just don't sit in one place. At least walk fast. There should be some Calories OUT!
