But I like the way he did it. If he wants a good public image, he can give subsidies, print money, give away jobs, etc.
But he wouldn't do that, why?
at least some sensible person in power, or a fanatical leader?
We all know what we did was wrong,
and to recover from the current economic crisis, we need to tighten our belts; there is no other way.
In this recession, we all suffer, and people with minimal wages suffer even more. However, in order to alleviate their suffering, someone must forego personal gain. Do you want to do that? We all know what you guys think about taxation. No one wants to do that; that's why you guys are thinking about migration. Even though your leaders are in power, they need to retread this path.
Thanks for your input.Nope, he can't. Can't give subsidies because ilk like him has emptied the treasury; can't print money if they want IMF to offer a bailout; of course he can give away jobs but again, what's the point if there's no money to pay to those job holders?
See above
Sensible my captain's quarters, he'd been the PM of Sri Lanka god knows how many times since 1993 and had been a permanent fixture at the parliament; he should be held responsible for the mess we're in as much as the Rajapukshas
Yeah letting assclowns like these control the economy of the country
As long as we let people who dragged the country into this mess hold the reins of the country there's no true recovery. Even if we manage to land a bailout they'll put the country in a similar mess sooner or later, and unlike us, they don't and won't have to tighten anything
Don't try to make it look like Ranil the benevolent president is foregoing his personal gain in any way or form. Yes, replacing leaders won't be the solution but hoping politicians who couldn't manage a country that wasn't in an economic crisis would somehow do better when there IS an economic crisis is the height of idiocy.
Do we know for certain that leaving the trodden path and taking the reins away from people who held it in turns since the independence would improve the situation in the long run? No, but as Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results.”
Yeah agree with this. You keep subsidizing and the it will become worse. But I like the way he did it. I wouldn't trust Ranil to form a Seettu group let alone economic reform of a country"Insanity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results." That is quite correct. When someone is doing economic reforms, we overthrow that government and replace it with another one, that is what we have done throughout history.
