You should leave atleast by 5 am from pettah & also you should defa go in an intercity bus machan, I don't know about the leaving time of the earliest intercity bus of the day to kandy from pettah, anyway machan just be there at pettah atleast by 4.45 am & you can go in a Kandy or a Matale intersity bus.
Most of the normal buses & semi luxury buses stops on the way for tea, breakfast, etc in the morning.

උදේ 4 ට තමයි පලවෙනි කොලබ -නුවර bus එක කොටුවෙන් යන්නේ ..!!
ඊට පස්සේ වී 4.30 ද කොහේදෝ ඊලග එක....

උබ බස් එකට නගින්න කලින් බලහං "අම්පාර-කොලබ නැත්නම් මහියංගනය -කොලබ " වගේ එව්වා තියනවා නම් ඒවා යන්න ලගයි බන් එකක නැගපන්..!! හිටගෙන යන්න උනත් පාඩු නැහැ ඉක්මනට යනවා
