30-year-old female international student of Sri Lankan nationality living in Toride City, Ibaraki Prefecture, was arrested last month when she was about nine months pregnant, for allegedly using medication to perform an abortion at her boyfriend's home. The
boyfriend was also arrested on suspicion of assisting in the abortion, and police are currently investigating the details. The

arrested suspect is Rubasin Liyanage Udesika Ayomi Jayarathu (30), an international student of Sri Lankan nationality living in Toride City, who is suspected of having performed an abortion using medication in a room in an apartment building in Utsunomiya City late last month when she was about nine months pregnant, according to police.
Munasingha Sudes Dilshan de Sosa (30), a fellow Sri Lankan national who lives in the same room, was also arrested for allegedly assisting in the abortion.
Earlier this month, the police were contacted by the Toride City Health Center, who said, "It appears that a foreign woman had aborted a fetus that was past the period when abortion is permitted." After questioning the two, it was discovered that they were suspected of being involved in the incident.
Both have admitted to the charges.
The baby's body was found in a bag on the riverbed in Utsunomiya City, and the police are currently investigating the details of the incident.

Two Sri Lankan men were arrested for stealing a Hiace and other vehicles from a parking lot in Chiba City.
