"Proposed Second New Kelani Bridge Project–A project for Traffic Improvement around existing new Kelani Bridge
The traffic congestion at new Kelani Bridge is expected to increase further as a result of opening of Colombo – Katunayake Expressway (CKE) and the future traffic demand will exceed the capacity of existing new Kelani bridge. Therefore with the assistance from the Government of Japan, a six lane bridge across the Kelani River adjacent to the existing new Kelani Bridge will be constructed.
The objective of this project is to increase the transport efficiency around the existing new Kelani Bridge and to establish a link between CKE and the city transport network. The Environments Impact Assessment (EIA) report is prepared to assess project impacts on the Physical, Physio-Chemical, Biological and Social environments. This report confirms to the Terms of Reference (ToR) issued by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA).
This report is published herewith for the information of General Public and wish to have the comments accordingly."
