However we do not want a bogus GDP growth driven by high interest debt like what the stupid MR did....... Which in actual terms is running the country like a Ponzi scheme ......
MRs GDP growth was purely led by construction activities while many of the Chinese projects employed thousands of Chinese workers and import of raw material from China meaning that majority of the GDP activities did not benefit the local economy plus the country had to incur high interest debt to maintain such activities.
Also during MR's brutal regime, the contribution from exports were drastically reduced as a % of the GDP and this is the most critical factor for the local economy as the overall GDP figure will not reflect the actual export growth.
The current governments strategy on developing the exports is commendable, however should also attract export led investments rather than simply concentrating on construction activities. Very soon the country will see a decline in Middle East remittances and therefore adequate employment opportunities should be created in Export manufacturing and the services sectors to counter this decline.
Ranil is a smart man and he has several smart people advising him ( except Ravi K) therefore it appears that he is well aware of the above situation.
