The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has decided to withdraw from the newly formed ‘Freedom People’s Alliance’.

The new coalition was formed by the SLFP together with several other political parties and the Group of Independent MPs in Parliament in view of the Local Government polls.

The ‘Freedom People’s Alliance’ formed under the ‘helicopter’ symbol was unveiled at the SLFP’s headquarters in Colombo last week.

However, the SLFP’s working committee today decided to withdraw from the new coalition, and contest independently for the election.

Issuing a notice, the SLFP said that it will contest the local government election independently as the SLFP under the party’s ‘hand’ symbol. (NewsWire)
