While someone is on the path of to be the Lord Buddha the particular person has to do some some sacrifices in each life while trying to live with less sins. it doesn't mean that particular person doesn't sin.
what we are collecting by life to life lead to the path to nirvana.
Sacrificing wife and childrens is called Dhana paramithawa which has to accomplished to be the Lord Buddha. In Wessanthara life only Lord Buddha completed by wishing to be Lord Buddha not to achieve only the eternity of nirvana.
So basically you dont need to worry about wife and children bro...
you can achieve nirvana by doing good...
