Thanks for the thread. Not everyone are aware of the shit conditions people may have to tolerate over here. Once you get settled, things get a bit easy. But the first few years are always hard. Be prepared for hardships coming your way.

Salary: you are first impressed with salary (thousands of dollars!). But be careful. Say if you are paid 8 lacks (SLR) per month as a professional. There is a tax (say 40%). You will get around 4.8 lacks. Lot of bills (home insurance, life insurance, healthcare, child expenses!)

Salaries are not always high; 40% or whatever the high tax rate is applicable only after a certain threshold. In Australia, if I recall correctly is $18,200. You can earn up to that much before getting taxed. It's true though, expenses can be a bitch. You have to be smart (not cheap, smart) with how you're spending money.

(3) Cost of house- Cars are cheap. But house price is very high (in some cities, the average price of three bedroom house can be more than 600 lack (in SLR). You have to pay significant amount of your salary for 20-35 years to pay it (say 2 lacks per year , mortgage +tax on home). The rest of the salary will go to everyday expenses + day care fee/activities for children and basically it is very difficult to save any money. Once you save money and have a trip to SL (that is it)

You can always start with renting. Apartments/units far from business districts are always desirable for new starters. But yeah, buying property is expensive.

Yes. Agree. At initial stage, we will get tax benefits from government as income is low. Once we get a good job with high salary, then it is time to pay taxes !

After several years, as a family ..........cant always stay on apartment. So have to move to a home which is really expensive

machan it is depend on the area.....for 3 bed room we need nearly 500 000 and if u can make a good deposit then easy to pay rest.


for renting 3 bed room depend on the suburb. Near melb,,I mean in Chadstone arround 1000 - 1700 (Old home)
