This is how inefficient our foreign service in negotiations with other countries. Our international relations are the worst under MR. So while other countries obtained bilateral acceptance we slept and did politics in our foreign missions. These are not difficult things , but one has to make initiative. Eg In Hong Kong an Indian passport holder can stay upto 14 days without a visa. If so why not sri lanka. Any person would agree that there are more terrorists and gangviolence in Inida and their living standard is very poor compared to sri lanka. But they have a strong foreign service not like ours. They love their country and do what ever possible in their missions abroad. In contrast our career diplomats even do not make an effort to do such things . most of them want media publicity like non career diplomats. So we could end up even being the worst and then the alarm bells would ring !

All true. I totally agree. These issues even exist in developed nations to some degree. But, my point is about half the countries are still worse than us even in this front. :)

My argument is not whether Sri Lanka is good or not per se. It's that Sri Lanka is good comparing to a lot of other countries, but those other countries are allowed to travel without visas to more countries than us!

yes you're correct. sri lanka is facing this situation because of human smugglers , unauthorized foreign university consultants , fake asylum seekers , foreign job scammers and many other illegal job seekers.

sri lanka should improve the efficiency of foreign service and sign mutual visa facilitation agreements with as many countries as possible.

Exactly machan. Both the foreign service and the mentality of some Sri lankans have to be changed. Some people don't understand what a tourist visa is for.

So this is not a ranking about the standard or quality of the passport. Its to do with money. I find the topic misleading.

When we talk about the entry visa requirements, it has a lot to do with the wealth of the country. If the people are rich, then a lot of countries will open their gates for visitors from that country. This is because the visitors will spend their money in the foreign country, so they effectively bring income. Also, if the people are rich, they will eventually return to their country. So, the problem is related to poverty not the passport. :)

And if you expect the government can do 'jack about it' you are mistaken. Its not only the government, but also the private sector and the countrymen together can build wealth for the nation. Do your part for the country, and hope everyone does the same. In time we will get there... hopefully :D

    What B.S.?

This clearly indicates that people from those countries are sick of the living conditions, political situation, Human rights, media freedom and WILL not return to their mother country, hence become a public burden to host country. Thats the reality. The boat prople of Sri Lanka, that's how people in the world know about us, sadly. This is mainly due to the ignorant governance of the previous regime, which ran the country with ARMY, Guns, Goons, white vans and drug lords.

Guess you have a point there. Maybe our foreign ministry is not perusing in using the diplomatic relations and push for on-arrival visa for Sri Lankans. Hmm... thinking about it; could it be a government policy. Difficult to obtain visa, less travelers, less currency outflow. Yes this it is a stupid argument. More people travelling the world means more business, technical, etc. opportunities for the country. But looking at how our politicians think on other matters I would not be surprised!
