ALERT: Misleading information used on President's campaign website
1 January 2015, Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA) and the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) were informed this morning that a popular Facebook page had featured content attributed to CPA on the re-election of Mahinda Rajapaksa (at the time of issuing this press release, the post can be publicly accessed here).
The post portrays a victory for the incumbent based on a a survey conducted by CPA.
This is entirely incorrect.
Neither CPA nor CMEV, at any point of time, has conducted or released a survey of this nature. The content on the website is completely false and has no basis in the work or output of CPA or CMEV.
We strongly condemn these efforts to mislead the public through deliberate misinformation.

The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) was formed in 1997 by the Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA), the Free Media Movement (FMM) and the Coalition against Political Violence as an independent and nonpartisan organization to monitor the incidence of election related violence.
