A group of around 350 students have surrounded the administrative building of Kelaniya University, reports say.
Security has been beefed up in the surrounding area while police have completely blocked off entry to the Faculty of Computing and Technology (FCT). Accordingly, exams which were scheduled to be held at the FCT today had been moved to the Vidyalanakara Pirivena premises, reports add.
According to a student activist at the university, all these issues have risen due to a visit by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to the campus tomorrow.
Meanwhile, a protest demonstration by the UoK undergraduates which had disrupted the vehicular movement along the Colombo – Kandy main road last night was also dispersed using tear gas and water cannons.
