There is a story behind this name. Some Ceylonese(SriLankans) were taken to Australia long ago(as now ) promising greener pasture. But when they arrived they were left high and dry in this area. They did not have jobs to do and had started begging 'badaginie' as they did not know English. So the name was given to this . This story was published in Sunday Island sometimes ago by late veteran journalist Wijesoma in 'this is my island' column. Some of these were compiled to a book and that compilation also carried this story. This was pubished in the papers in 80s and the book was launched in late 90s.
