    Sri Lanka deny match-fixing allegations

    Thursday, 03 March 2011 10:03
Sri Lanka cricket, the controlling body of Cricket in Sri Lanka denied the allegations of match-fixing made against two of its players in their World Cup defeat to Pakistan.
Sri Lanka, one of the favourites to win the tournament, fell short of
Pakistan's total of 277-7 by 11 runs on last Saturday, leaving
thousands at a packed R. Premadasa stadium in Colombo devastated.
“It is with deep regret that we note that a leading television channel
in a special programme, has stated that Sri Lanka has lost against
Pakistan due to two of our leading players not getting runs in that
game,” Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.
“Further, they added that the two players had failed intentionally,
thereby implying that our players might have been involved in
    match-fixing,” said SLC.
Sri Lanka cricket in its statement has condemned actions of the
presenter of the said program carrying a story that is baseless and
thereby demoralizing the players during the ongoing World Cup.
The government well ahead of the World Cup series had instructed the
media not to act in a manner that would jeopardize the game
