Methyl over 25 ml can be fatal without treatment. There are treatment protocols in place like immediate sodium bicarb and a shot of Ethyl alcohol.
Fomepizole should be considered as first line antidote. Fomepizole acts similarly to ethanol. It is a stronger competitive inhibitor of ADH (Alcohol Dehydrogenase)
Sometimes Fomepizole might not easily be available. Ethanol competes with methanol for ADH, thus preventing metabolism of methanol to its toxic by-products. ADH has a 10- to 20-fold greater affinity for ethanol than for methanol.
Fomepizole can give enough time for dialysis needs.

In Sri Lanka, people occasionally die from methanol poisoning. Or they gradually weaken their organs and die quickly. This is due to the fact that the distillation is not done to the proper standards or because of the use of primary products.

I read somewhere that those who drabk kasippu had lower probablity of having chronic kidney disease in Rajarata area. This came as a part of a reasearch done by a well known proff. He didnot release this fact due to ethical issues.

One of the biggest potential risks comes with Kasippu is methanol. Methanol occurs naturally in the fermentation process and is present in low levels in many alcoholic beverages. If not careful, you can develop methanol poisoning through inhalation or by drinking it.
