The World of Hayleys to build “World Export Centre” Twin Towers

The Hayleys group, Sri Lanka’s most diversified conglomerate and pioneer in value added exports, announces its latest venture, the ‘World Export Centre’, a state of the art “A” Grade office Twin Towers, with 55 floors each, having 3.8 million square feet of commercial office space. The Towers will provide working space for 20,000 employees, with ample parking for over 2,000 vehicles, 3 floors of retail and office amenities.

This transformative project, the viability of which would depend on infrastructure development incentives offered by the Government of Sri Lanka similar to what has been granted in the recent past for similar developments, will enable Sri Lankan and global export oriented firms to house and exhibit their products and services in a single holistic location.

Sri Lanka’s Hayleys plans 55-storey “A” Grade property project at Deans Road

ECONOMYNEXT – Hayleys said it plans a property development project at its head office premises in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo consisting of twin 55-floor towers each with 3.8 million square feet of “A” Grade commercial space.

The proposed venture would be carried out by a newly incorporated company with 100% of initial equity investment made by Hayleys.

The towers will come at the Hayleys head office premises at No. 400, Deans Road, Colombo 10, a stock exchange filing said.

The implementation of the proposed venture would depend on it receiving infrastructure development incentives offered by the government in the recent past to similar development projects in the country, it said.

When inquired from Hayley group Executive Chairman/CEO Mohan Pandithage of the investment and the timelines of the project, he told Mirror Business that a detailed statement containing all the information about the project would be released shortly.

Hayleys Co-Chairman and controlling shareholder Dhammika Perera this October hinted on his plans to construct an office tower to house the group businesses saying that having separate small offices was too costly.

“I’m right now learning more about office complexes,” Perera told the 37th National Conference of Chartered Accountants this October.

Perera said he had been talking to a foreign consultant about the project, where the consultant was surprised by the lack of ‘A’ grade office complexes in the country.

Over 100 companies operate under Hayleys group and it owns a 6-acre land in Foster Lane, Colombo 10 where currently the group operations are located. The property where the new twin towers will be constructed was valued over Rs.6.3 billion according to Hayley PLC’s latest annual report.

Access Engineering rehabilitates flood-damaged major irrigation infrastructure in Batticaloa under the Climate Resilience Improvement Project

Access Engineering PLC, one of the foremost civil engineering companies in Sri Lanka, successfully concluded rehabilitation of flood damaged major irrigation infrastructure in Batticaloa District under the Climate Resilience Improvement Project recently.

The Climate Resilience Improvement Project is part of the comprehensive Disaster Risk Management (DRM) program earmarked by the Government of Sri Lanka to reduce the adverse impacts of climate change and to adapt the stock of infrastructure to the ones that could improve the capacity to withstand natural disasters.

The project is jointly funded by World Bank and the Government of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is the first South Asian Country to access an innovative form of World Bank financing that provides immediate payouts after a major catastrophe.

Recognising that the country suffers a rainfall pattern and water related climate vulnerability which is likely to intensify in the years to come, nine river basins were recognised to carry out flood and drought hazard modeling under the flood risk mitigation component of the project which primarily focus on rehabilitating infrastructure damaged by recent floods or those particularly at risk to future floods.

Furthering the cause, the contract of the Improvement to Sammugarajah Anicut, Reconstruction of Nelluchchanai Anicut, Reconstruction of Kayamadu Regulator, Improvement and Rehabilitation of T11 channel and Widening, Straightening the Moongil Aru from D/S of Muniwaram Anicut to U/S of Muhathuwaram Anicut in Navakiri Scheme in Batticaloa District was entrusted to Access Engineering PLC by the Irrigation Department. The consultancy services for the project was also provided by the Irrigation Department and the project was successfully completed in September.

මෙහි සේවකයන් සුපුරුදු පරිදි අද (28) සේවයට වාර්තා කරන විට එහි කොන්ත්‍රාත් කරන චීන සමාගමේ නිලධාරීන් සේවකයින්ට දැනුම් දී ඇත්තේ කළුගඟ ජලාශයේ ඉදිකිරීම් නවතා දමන බැවින් සේවයට නොයන ලෙසයි.

මේ තීරණය ගන්නේ කුමක් නිසාදැයි තමන්ට නොදැන්වූ බවත්, මුදල් නැති බව පමණක් කියූ බවත්, සේවකයින් පවසයි.

පසුව සේවකයෝ 150ක් පමණ දෙනා උදේ චීන ජාතික සමාගමට විරුද්ධව විරෝධතාවයක් පවත්වද්දී පොලිසිය පැමිණ එය නවතා දමා ඇත.

සේවයෙන් ඉවත්කළ සේවකයෝ චීන ජාතික කොන්ත්‍රාත්කරුවන්ගේ කාර්යාලය අසලට වී වර්ෂාව මැදම රැස්වී සිටින අයුරු එහි ගිය අප වාර්තාකරුට දැකගන්නට හැකිවිණි.

මෙම වැඩබිමේ සේවකයින් 600ක් පමණ සේවය කළ බවත්, කඩින් කඩ සේවකයින් පසුගිය දින කීපයේ ඉවත් කළ බවද අවසානයේ සියලු සේවකයන් ඉවත් කොට වැඩකළ වාහන සියල්ල එකස්ථානයකට ගාල් කළ බවද පැවසේ.

සේවකයින් කියා සිටින්නේ දැනට වැඩකරමින් සිටි සේවකයින්ගේ කපාගත් අර්ථසාධක මුදල් ගෙවීමවලින් ඉවත්වී වෙනම චීන ජාතිකයන් ගෙන්වා ඉතිරි වැඩ කිරීමේ සැලසුමක් පවතින බවයි.

වසර තුනක පමණ කාලයක් සේවය කළ තමුන්ව මේ ආකාරයෙන් එකවරම ඉවත් කිරීම පිළිබඳව මහවැලි අධිකාරිය මෙතෙක් කිසිදු ප්‍රකාශයක් නොකළ බවද සේවකයෝ චෝදනා කරති.

පසුව මේ පිළිබඳව මොරගහකන්ද හා කළුඟග ජලාශ ව්‍යාපෘති කළමනාකරු ඉංජිනේරු ආර්.බී . තෙන්නකෝන් මහතාගෙන් විමසීමේදී කියා සිටියේ එසේ සේවකයන් ඉවත් කිරීමක් සිදුකර නැති බවත්, කොන්ත්‍රාත් සමාගමේ කළමනාකරණයේ වෙනසක් සිදු කර ඇති බවත්ය.

කළුඟග ජලාශය කඩිනමින් වැඩ අවසන් කර 2017 වසරේ විවෘත කිරීමට යන බවද මුදල් ගෙවීම්වල කිසිදු ප්‍රමාදයක් නොමැති බවද හෙතෙම කීවේය.

සමාජ ආරක්ෂණ ජාල සඳහා විදෙස් ණය මුදලක් ලබාගනී

සමාජ ආරක්ෂණ ජාල වැඩසටහනක් දියත් කිරීම සඳහා වූ මූල්‍ය පහසුකම් ලබාගැනීම වෙනුවෙන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා රජය හා ලෝක බැංකුවේ ජාත්‍යන්තර සංවර්ධන ආයතනය අතර ණය ගිවිසුමක් අත්සන් කර තිබේ.

මෙම ගිවිසුම යටතේ අමෙරිකානු ඩොලර් මිලියන 53.7 ක මුදල් ශ්‍රී ලංකාව හිමිවන අතර, මෙම ණය මුදල වර්ෂ 5 න් ආපසු ගෙවීමේ සහන කාලයක් යටතේ වසර 24 තුළ ගෙවා නිම කළ යුතු බවත්, ඊට අමතරව 2.75% ක වාර්ෂික ස්ථාවර පොලී අනුපාතිකයකට යටත් වන අතර 0.25% වාර්ෂික ගාස්තුවක් නොයෙදූ ණය ශේෂය මත ගෙවිය යුතු බවත් මුදල් අමාත්‍යාංශය කියයි.

මෙම ගිවිසුම සඳහා ශ්‍රී ලංකා රජය වෙනුවෙන් මුදල් අමාත්‍යාංශයේ ලේකම් ආචාර්ය ආර්.එච්.එස්. සමරතුංග මහතා සහ ලෝක බැංකුව වෙනුවෙන් මෙරට නේවාසික අධ්‍යක්ෂිකා අයිඩා ස්වරායි රිඩ්ඩිහවු මහත්මිය අත්සන් කරන ලදී. අත්සන් තැබීම අද (28දා) මුදල් අමාත්‍යාංශයේදී සිදුකර තිබේ.

Social Safety Nets Project

The development objective of the Social Safety Nets Project is to contribute to the improved equity, efficiency and transparency of Sri Lanka's social safety net programs for the benefit of the poor and vulnerable. This project has three components. 1) The firs component, Building a Unified Social Registry, will be a unified social registry containing data on all current and former program beneficiaries and new applicants. 2)The second component, Integrated Service Delivery Systems, will finance the eligible expenditure program (EEP) against achievement of disbursement-linked indicators (DLIs) related to the collection of data on current beneficiaries and new applicants of programs under the Welfare Benefit Scheme (WBS), as well as to the development of an integrated Management Information System (MIS) for the harmonized management of programs. 3) The third component, Support for Project Implementation, Monitoring and Planning, will support the establishment of the Welfare Benefits Board (WBB) and project management unit (PMU), and use of the new system for monitoring and longer-term strategic planning.
