Mangala’s sex scandal Wife of the suspect says:

Mangala’s sex scandal Wife of the suspect says:

    0 January 15, 2014 2:09 am

I, Nirosha Harshani Fernando, residing at No. 62/52, Station Road (land side), Ratmalana, being a Buddhist truly and respectfully declare and affirm as follows:
    1. That I am the deponent of events mentioned below.
    2. The person currently held in remand, Shevan Priyankara, is my wedded husband.
    3. In consequent to this marriage which took place about two years ago, I have a baby daughter of about eight months.

    4. After our marriage, he has told me that he has worked as a tourist guide by way of a job.
    5. But I became aware of the fact that my husband was a homosexual only some time after our marriage.
    6. The Member of Parliament, Mr. Mangala Samaraweera, used to visit from time to time, the area where we were residing to meet my husband, often.
    7. And my husband has told me that on his part he too has visited the residence of this parliamentarian at Keselwatta, Panadura.

    8. Although I did not suspect anything foul about this relationship at the beginning, when he, after seeing Mr. Mangala Samaraweera, often used to come back with money, clothes and shoes, I started questioning him which often resulted in rows and arguments.

    9. My husband, even though reluctantly, has conceded to me that Parliamentarian Mr. Mangala Samaraweera used to have homosexual relations with him.
    10. As a result of this homosexual relationship, he often visits that house and comes back after spending the whole night there, and when questioned about those jaunts, he had assaulted me on several occasions.

    11. When I visited the Women and Children's Bureau of the Mt. Lavinia Police several months ago to make a complaint against my husband, and stated that my husband is having homosexual relations with Mr. Mangala Samaraweera, the lady officer there refused to take down the complaint exclaiming, "Are you trying to have my tie and coat removed? I will only take down the fact that your man (husband) assaulted you."
    12. Even after that incident, Parliamentarian Mr. Mangala Samaraweera came to see my husband on several occasions and took him to his (MP's) house.

    13. There was a room set apart for the use of my husband in Mr. Mangala Samaraweera's house, and on two occasions, he (Mr. Samaraweera), had bought my husband two new, expensive mobile phones.
    14. On several occasions, when Mr. Mangala Samaraweera was informed of the fact that our family had run short of money for day to day expenses, the necessary funds had been provided by him to my husband.
    15. But I totally opposed such dealings, stressing that living off on monies earned like that was meaningless.
    16. On a previous occasion when my husband ran short of money, Mr. Mangala Samaraweera had asked him to borrow money from somewhere, and on that assurance, a sum of Rs. 15,000 was borrowed from an aunt living close to our house. Subsequently, Mr. Mangala Samaraweera came and settled that loan.

    17. My husband has told me from time to time that since last December Mr. Mangala Samaraweera has changed.
    18. According to what my husband told me, one Sameera had got close to Mangala Samaraweera by then.
    19. My husband in relating that fact to me said that, he (Mr. Samaraweera) had promised to buy him a boat. "Now there is nothing forthcoming. A house has been bought for Sameera aiya. Mr. Samaraweera has also bought him a Maruti car," my husband told me.

    20. Once my husband came back from Mr. Mangala Samaraweera's house, bringing a laptop. He told me: "This is the laptop used in our Sir's house. I brought it home." In that computer there were photographs that depicted Mr. Samaraweera and my husband inclusive of a lot of other data.

    21. After this laptop was brought home by my husband, a need for money arose, again. On being told of the need, Mr. Samaraweera asked me to pawn that laptop and raise the money. He asked me to delete the footage on the Matara demonstration and the photographs depicting himself and my husband before pawning the laptop. Mr. Samaraweera told me that he would come back subsequently and have it (laptop) redeemed.
    22. Accordingly, this laptop was pawned at a recognized pawn broking shop of W.S. Rupasinghe at Moratuwa on December 19, and a sum of Rs 12,000 was obtained, under acknowledgement. The said machine was brought home by my husband about three weeks before that.

    23. Subsequently, with the greatest difficulty, contact was established with Mr. Samaraweera and he asked my husband to visit him for the New Year. He has told my husband on that occasion that there were several bottles of foreign liquor which he could sell and raise the cash.

    24. Accordingly, my husband has visited the house but as Mr. Mangala Samaraweera was not there at that time, my husband, as was the practice, had opened the door and entered the house and collected the few bottles of foreign liquor. But on his way back home he has been arrested by the police.
    25. Subsequently, I became aware that a complaint has been made against my husband to the effect that my husband had gained entrance to that house stealthily and had stolen the few bottles of foreign liquor and the laptop computer therein.

    26. I am declaring these facts as per the decision I took to reveal everything, namely if that complaint has been made by Mr. Mangala Samaraweera, to affirm that it was totally untrue, and the motive on the part of Mr. Samaraweera to make such a false statement is to get rid of my husband. According to what my husband told me, he has obtained the laptop computer and the few bottles of foreign liquor with the permission of Mr. Mangala Samaraweera.

    27. Therefore, may I request the honoured Court to free my husband from these charges or have him released on bail.

UNP MPs demand inquiry against Mangala

    0 January 16, 2014 2:01 am

    By Anuradha Samuel

A group of United National Party (UNP) members have called for a disciplinary inquiry regarding MP Mangala Samaraweera, member of the Leadership Council and Head of Communications, who it was alleged, has had a homosexual relationship with a person residing in Panadura, which had brought the Party into disrepute. They have requested both the UNP leadership and the Leadership Council to take action against Samaraweera, forthwith.

The group comprises Ranjith Maddumabandara, Dilip Wedaarachchi, Ashoka Abeysinghe and several other MPs. The charges need to be responsibly addressed not only by Samaraweera but also by the Party,
    the group stated.

According to the group, Samaraweera should, without shaming the Party, remove himself from all positions he currently holds in the Party until such time the Court hearings into the case are concluded, while at the same time, explain to the Party in particular, and the nation at large, regarding the allegations levelled against him.

While stating that the same law should be applicable to all members of the Party, the group of members also said that the responsibility of having to answer to the public and the members at the grassroots had befallen on the members of the Party.
