Root Cause: Uneven Clutch Engagement or Belt Slippage​

When you start moving, your scooter’s centrifugal clutch engages automatically using spinning shoes and a metal bell.
If any part of that system is dirty, glazed, or uneven, it grabs and slips repeatedly, causing that “shudder” or “vibration” you feel in the handle and footboard.

1. Clutch Shoes Glazed or Worn​

• The clutch shoes inside the rear pulley spin outwards and touch the bell.
• Over time, heat and friction cause the surface to glaze (get shiny and hard).
• When glazed, they don’t grip smoothly — instead, they “bite” suddenly, creating vibration at take-off.

Fix:

• Open the clutch assembly and sand or replace the shoes.
• A mechanic can lightly sand both clutch shoes and bell surface using fine sandpaper.
• If shoes are below wear limit, replace the clutch assembly (~₹800–1200 usually).

2. Clutch Bell Overheated or Warped​

• If you often ride in traffic or on slopes, the clutch bell can overheat.
• A slightly warped bell will cause uneven contact → vibration when engaging.

Fix: Replace clutch bell if it’s blue/discolored or uneven.

3. Drive Belt Worn or Slipping​

• The CVT rubber belt transmits power from engine to clutch pulley.
• Over time, it stretches and hardens, leading to slipping when you start moving, especially under load.
• That slippage feels exactly like a deep vibration or “judder.”

Fix: Replace the drive belt (recommended every 12,000–15,000 km).

4. Clutch Spring Weak​

• The small return springs on the clutch shoes can weaken with age, causing premature or uneven engagement.
• You’ll feel vibration right as you twist the throttle.

Fix: Replace clutch springs (cheap part, but needs disassembly).

5. Engine Mount or Rubber Bush (less common but possible)​

• If the vibration is especially strong with heavy load, the engine pivot bush may have worn out.
• The engine swings slightly when you accelerate; worn rubber mount = more shake.

Fix: Replace rear engine mount bush.
