I have seen more than few post regarding this topic. It is good to see people in Sri Lanka willing to openly discuss about it. The author of the post have given some information about the procedure. But there is some misinformation about it as well.
First of all the the surgery is called Sex Reassignment Surgery. As the name described it self, this is the final step in any townswomen's transition process. SRS will allow a transwoman to sexually function as a biological female.

After seeing several treads about this I feel like many users here have vary little or no knowledge about the transition process or why some people elected to change their gender. That is a total different topic which I may explain little bit in detail one day. But for the moment I will go back to the topic of transition process.
Unlike many believe, you can't just got to a surgeon and ask him to change your gender. I wish it is simple as that. The transition process is a long and complicated one and it start with you talking to a psychologist or a psychiatrist about you cross gender feelings. This process can take months and months to years. After this evaluation process the psychologist will refer you to a endocrinologist or a general physician for hormone replacement therapy. If you a male to female transgender person you will be given combination of estrogen and progesterone and testosterone blockers. This will help to develop secondary sexual characteristics of the desired gender of the transgender person. After all these treatment and two recommendations from physiologists the a transgender person will undergo Sex Reassignment surgery as the final step of their transition.
The transition process is a very emotional, heartbreaking and expensive process for many trans people around the world and it is true to Sri Lanka as well.
