අපි කවුරුත් දන්න හම්බන්තොට වරාය ගැන තමයි මම මේ කියන්න යන්නේ.අපේ ලංකාවට උපායශීලි විදිහට ඉතාමත් වටින වරායක් විදිහට තමයි මම මේ වරයා දකින්නේ.මේ වරාය වටින්නේ ලංකාවට ආනයන /අපනයන වලට නෙවෙයි.නැව් වලට අවශ්‍ය සේවාවන් ලබා දෙන්න .දැනට ගොඩක් නැව් වලට සේවාවන් දෙන්නේ කොළඹ ,මැලේසියාව ,සිංගපුරුව නැත්තන් ඉන්දියාව..එත් ඒ හැම රටකම වරාය තියෙන්නේ නාවික මාර්ගයෙන් ටිකක් ඈතට වෙන්න.ඒ නිසා නැව් වලට ඒ සේවාවන් වෙනුවෙන්ම අදාළ වරයට යන්න ඕනි..නමුත් හම්බන්තොට වරාය එහෙම නෑ .නාවික මාර්ගය ආසන්නයේ තියෙන්නේ..ඉතින් නැවු වලට ලොකු පහසුවක්...එත් අපේ රටේ නිසි ප්‍රාග්ධනය /තාක්ෂණික දැනුම නැති නිසා මේක අපිට කරන්න බැරි වෙලා තියෙනවා..එහෙම නැත්තන් කුහක දේශපාලනය නිසා නොකර ඉන්නවා ..කෙසේ හෝ දැන් මේක චීනයට දෙන්න හදනවා..ඇත්තටම චීනයට මේ වරාය දෙනවා කියන්නේ උන්ට පට්ටම වාසියක් .ඒ මොකද එයාලට හම්බන්තොට එයාලගේ පාලනයට ගත්තා කියන්නේ ඉතින් සල්ලි තමයි..එයාලා සිංගප්පුරුවේ වාරයේත් ව්‍යාපෘතියක් කරනවා..එතකොට හම්බන්තොට සහ සිංගප්පුරුව තමයි එයාලගේ ප්‍රධානම OPERATION කරන වරායවල් වෙන්නේ...මේකෙන් ලංකාවට හොද නරක දෙකම වෙනවා ..චීනය විසින් හම්බන්තොට කර්මාන්ත ඇති කරනවා..ඇත්තටම එයාලගේ වෙළද මධ්‍යස්ථානයක් කරන්න යන්නේ .එකෙන් අපේ අයට අලුතෙන් රස්සාවල් වගේම නව තාක්ෂණයත් ලබාගන්න පුළුවන්..එත් අපිට ලබා ගන්න පුළුවන් විදේශ විනිමය තමයි චීනයට යන්නේ ..මම මේ ෆොටෝ දාලා තියෙන්නේ අද මේ මොහොතේ ලංකාව අසලින් යන නැවු ටික ඔයාලට බලාගන්න...ඔයාලටත් බලාගන්න පුළුවන් මේ ලින්ක් එකෙන් ගිහිල්ලා ...https://www.marinetraffic.com

Colombo International Container Terminals Ltd., (CICT) is a joint venture Company between China Merchants Port Holdings Co., Ltd. (CMPort) a listed blue chip company in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). CICT is Colombo’s third container terminal with a 2.4 million TEUs capacity constructed in the Port of Colombo. It is a 35 year Build Operate and Transfer Agreement with SLPA under the Colombo South Harbour expansion project. CMHI holds 85% of the partnership whilst the balance 15% is being held by SLPA.

The Colombo port has been growing but Chinese terminal operator CICT has been comfortably boosting its volumes compared to state owned Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) whose market share is now less than 50 per cent. First quarter figures released by the Colombo Port indicate that SLPA’s market share for the first quarter of 2016 fell to 41 per cent from 47 per cent in the same 2015 period and of 55 per cent in 2014. SLPA total volumes for the 2016 quarter were 580,222 TEUs, 587,684 TEUs in 2015 and 633, 853 TEUs in 2014, the data showed. China International Container Terminal (CICT) has however seen an increase in market share up at 32 per cent this year compared to 25 per cent in 2015 and 10 per cent in 2014.

Volumes at the new terminal, catering to deep draft vessels or the ultra large vessels not available at other terminals, had recorded increases of upto 445, 478 TEUs in total for the first quarter of this year. Last year, the total volume for the quarter was 319,943 TEUs against 116, 441 TEUs in 2014.
South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT) first quarter market share for 2016 slipped to 27 per cent this year from 28 per cent and 35 per cent in 2015 and 2014, respectively. This is despite its total volumes for this year rising to 374,257 TEUs from 347, 767 TEUs in 2015. SLPA volumes were down by 1.3 per cent in the first quarter whereas SAGT and CICT had grown by 7.6 per cent and 39.2 per cent respectively.

CICT voted Best Container Terminal in Asia under 4 million TEUs

Beats terminals in China, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines to win coveted AFLAS award

The CMPort managed Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT), the only deep water terminal in the Port of Colombo, has been voted the Best Container Terminal (under 4 million TEUs) in Asia at the prestigious Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards hosted and organised by Asia Cargo News.

To win the coveted award, CICT competed with the top eight shortlisted terminals in the category, attracting worldwide attention to the capacity, capability and service levels it offers global shipping lines calling on Colombo.

The other terminals in the shortlist for the award were Busan New Container Terminal (South Korea), Da Chan Bay Terminal One (China), Dalian International Container Terminal (China), Fuzhou International Container Terminal (China), Jakarta International Container Terminal (Indonesia), Laem Chabang International Terminal (Thailand) and Manila International Container Terminal (Philippines).

The four finalists in the category were CICT, Busan New Container Terminal (BNCT), Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) and Manila International Container Terminal (MICT).

“We are naturally delighted to win this award, particularly because the winners were chosen not by a panel of judges but through the votes of customers and other stakeholders,” CICT CEO Mr Ray Ren said. “From inception, our focus has been on the development of the Port of Colombo into a leader in the region through enhanced capacity, greater efficiency, innovation and eco-friendly operations, and this award is an affirmation that CICT has achieved its goal in the relatively short period.”

Ms. Catriona Jayasundera, Head of Marketing and Commercial at CICT commented: “It was indeed a creditable achievement by any standard, given that CICT has been in operation for only three years.” She said CICT thanks its customers and all stakeholders who had voted in favour of CICT in the global poll for this award and for the confidence placed in the company. “We dedicate this prestigious award to ‘Team CICT’ whose commitment, dedication and team work made it possible,” she added. ”We also thank the SLPA for the critical role played in providing the supportive common user services efficiently, without which this achievement would not have been possible.”

CICT reported a throughput of 2 million TEUs for the 12 months ending 31st December 2016, achieving impressive YoY growth of 28 per cent in volume and enabling the Port of Colombo to register overall incremental growth in the three consecutive years since CICT came into operation. The incremental volume handled by CICT was one of the contributors to the overall throughput of the Port of Colombo growing by an estimated 11 per cent in 2016.



CICT is the first and currently the only deep water terminal in South Asia equipped with facilities to handle the largest vessels afloat. Over the past two and a half years, CICT has brought some of the largest vessels plying the Asia-Europe routes to Colombo, including MSC Maya (at 19,224 TEU the world’s largest container vessel), the MV Mogens Maersk (18,300 TEU), MSC New York (16,652 TEU), CMA CGM Marco Polo (16,020 TEU), YML YM Wondrous, Edith Maersk and EMC Thalassa Hellas (each 14,000 plus TEUs) and their sister vessels, which are all regular callers at CICT.

CICT has been responsible for several firsts in service innovation and eco-friendly operations in the Port of Colombo. In early 2016, the company launched a US$ 10 million programme to convert its fleet of diesel operated rubber-tyred-gantry cranes to electricity driven rubber-tyred gantry cranes (E-RTGs) which have zero carbon emissions. CICT is also the first terminal in the Port of Colombo to introduce electronic boat notes, breaking new ground in efforts to reduce paper in export documentation, as well as the first to launch a mobile app for the purpose of keeping track of containerised cargo at the terminal.

In 2016 CICT won the prestigious ‘Highly Commended’ award in the ‘Port Operator’ category at Lloyd’s List Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards, and was cited as one of the factors in its parent company – China Merchants Port Holdings (CMPH) – being adjudged Port Operator of the Year at the Lloyd’s List 2016 Global Awards.
