SATA 2 and 3 are backward compatible.
also i dont think a WD blue will even saturate the 3Gbps bandwidth (SATA 2 standard),
so no issue with SATA 2 unless you are going to use a high end SSD.

well you have mentioned 3Gbps and it is the standard max bandwidth throughput for SATA 2. SATA 1 has maximum speed of 1.5 Gbps. SATA 2 is backward compatible with SATA 1

Considering speed-wise, the way you ranked 'em is correct. But, overall, your hierarchy is wrong, comparing to how WD has stated.

Because, WD has given the priority not to SPEED, but to STORAGE. So, storage-wise, WD Green is of course better than WD Blue, but slower, as you said. It's therefore that, WD Green runs lower in noise & heat (quieter & cooler). It's therefore itself that, WD Green is longer in lifespan than WD Blue, as well.

Remember that, how much an HDD is getting tired at runtime would decide how long it can last. That's a common theory not only for an HDD, but also for every item, that's ELECTRONIC.
