Vibrant opener Kusal Perera's cricketing future lay at the hands of his lawyers as he prepared to battle out his case against doping charges brought against him by the ICC's Anti-Doping Committee.
The Sri Lanka wicket-keeper/batsman was tested positive for a banned substance in early December and faces a lengthy ban from international cricket. Perera is currently serving a provisional suspension imposed by the ICC until his case is heard. He has time till end of April.
Perera has sought assistance from Sri Lanka Cricket to help him clear his name. "We are currently in talks with a top legal firm in UK seeking assistance on how best we can help Kusal out," said Sri Lanka Cricket assistant secretary Ravin Wickremaratne. "Kusal is an asset to Sri Lanka cricket in all three formats of the game and he is seeking our assistance," he said.

Wickremaratne however cautioned that Perera's was a one-off case where Sri Lanka Cricket is assisting him and that it should not be taken as a precedent for the future. Sri Lanka Cricket will bear the cost of legal fees which will be later deducted from Perera's income within a certain period.
