That's their organisational culture.

Mainly there's 2 different theories in management style called theory x and theory y.

Theory X:

In this theory, management assumes employees are inherently lazy and will avoid work if they can. They inherently dislike work. Because of this, workers need to be closely supervised and comprehensive systems of controls developed.

Theory Y:

In this theory management assumes employees may be ambitious, self-motivated, anxious to accept greater responsibility, and exercise self-control, self-direction, autonomy and empowerment. It is believed that employees enjoy their mental and physical work duties. It is also believed that if given the chance employees have the desire to be creative and forward thinking in the workplace.

Google operates in Theory Y management style.

Not only Google, there are many organisations do this. But not to this extend though.

Well.. yeah and people like Google are quite fuzzy too when they taking in people so most of the time they have the *cream* so they can afford to adopt this style too!

I heard in Google, the employees are given some percentage of their working hours to develop their own project... if successful Google will help them launch it!!

Nice place to work!

yeah it is a very long process and quite hard to get into Google if you don't deserve it... you know what I mean ;)

Yep. They do give plenty of time for employee initiatives. They have a nice term for that which I can't remember.

Even the Orkut community was an initiative by a normal employee.

Most importantly, Google gives you free time... even several days off... to go and have some free time with family and enjoy life. Coz Google knows that's how creativity comes out you know..

Definitely a nice place to work and an objective of mine too. heh

 Yeah I heard in their interviews sometimes they ask the MOST weirdest questions you'll never expect

Like all of a sudden they might ask...

Approximately how many golf balls you think can fit into a normal size School Bus

or even like....

Imagine you are in a blender.. its gonna start in 60 seconds what would you do?

  Funny.. but really testing your estimation and quick thinking skills!!! If you get through.. like you said.. you really deserve what they offer!:lol:

EDIT: Hey I think we should start a thread for "How to Handle Interviews".. what you think? we can get other member's experiences also!

1) employees naturally like fun and relax, especially to work hard....
2) If the conditions are fair, they do accept responsibilities and expect them.....
3) If the company shows them the goals and objectives, they work hard to achieving them..
4) If the works are done correctly, employees are having a great satisfaction...
5) every time they expecting the high progress of company.. because of that they give the newest concepts and creative ideas to management....
6) management uses good motivation tricks
eg: promotions
high salaries
bonuses
extra facilities

if every company use these strategies to their employees... surely they can win:yes:

How much should you charge to wash all the windows in Seattle...How would you find out if a machine’s stack grows up or down in memory..

Explain a database in three sentences to your eight-year-old nephew...

How many times a day does a clock’s hands overlap...

This culture don't suit every company.

It all depends on the attitude of the employees.

Some may just have fun and fun only without working. (Theory X people)

Only theory Y people will work while having fun.

It's just the nature of human.

they have extra freedom, that's why people are not having a good service from them... they don't use it... if they do , they'll lose their fun

it's not useful even we ask them to use Y THEORY... 105% they are dumb:lol:
even they have visions and missions..... they don't need to achieve..

that happens because most of the employees hadn't any motivational activities from the begining.....

all the blames goes to the management who did that :growl:
