Is the Japanese earthquake related to March 19 ‘Supermoon’?


There have been speculations that the massive earthquake which rocked Japan on March 11th could be linked to the March 19th ‘Supermoon’. It has been reported that the ‘Supermoon’ could trigger disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.
It is believed that on March 19th the moon will be closer to Earth than at any time since 1992, just 221,567 miles away, and that its gravitational pull will bring chaos to Earth.
March 19th is still a week away but those who believe in this can still claim that this was close enough for there to be some effect.
Scientists have said that Supermoons will result in High tides but earthquakes are unlikely.
Professor George Helffrich, a seismologist at the University of Bristol has this to say “Complete nonsense. The moon has no significant effect on earthquake triggering. If the moon triggers “big” earthquakes, it would trigger the many of millions of times more “small” earthquakes that happen daily. There is no time dependence of those;hence no moon effect.”
