40 ex-army men and JVP MP released in Vavuniya - Police

JVP MP Vijitha Herath along with 40 ex-army men are currently being questioned in Vavuniya, Military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara told Ada Derana. Nanayakkara added that the Vavuniya police and army are jointly questioning them.

The group was traveling in a bus this morning when police had stopped them for questioning.

JVP MP prevented from going to Kilinochchi


JVP Gampaha district MP Vijitha Herath and presidential candidate Channa Gamage were prevented from proceeding beyond Vavuniya this morning after they attempted to go to Killinochchi to inquire into an attempt to rig the vote there.

MP Herath and Mr.Gamage had left for Killinochchi last night upon receiving information from their polling agents that there was a plan to rig the vote there.

However when they reached Vavuniya this morning, they were prevented from proceeding further. He is now at the Vavuniya police station trying to get clearance to proceed to Killinochchi, JVP MP Anura Dissanayake said.
