how long u looked at the pool or how much reading you've done about swimming doesn't matter
to learn it u have to jump in to it and practice....
Same theory apply to English...
You have to read news papers ... listen to English Radio... Listen to English songs..
Write few things (e.g. Essays about various things)
Those kind of things will guide you to improve your English....
And the best way is have a girlfriend in UK or US and mail to her... that's the best way!!!

If you are facing an exam don't presure you self too much. just do your best.. afterwards when you can bear the pressure then start setting targets! to be the 1st of the class and what so ever!
