Yes that is true, you can't download from RS when you reconnect. If you use a proxy server which in not transparent then you will not have any problems, unless someone is already downloading from that proxy.

    rishoban:
    Add these details if possible.

    ::Who shouldn't go for airtel::
    1. If you play games online(ex: Counter Strike)
    2. If you require stable speeds
    3. If you have the need to host servers on your pc
    4. If you need to download from file-sharing sites(ex: rapidshare) without waiting

    1. Counter Strike latency was at 100-150 in the beginning but recently the latency goes to 380-450 which is not bareable and I am pretty sure it is the same deal with other online games.
    2. The speeds are not stable, they range from 60-280kB/s with a download accelerator. Without one I get only 30-60kB/s.
    3. All incoming ports are blocked, also all the outgoing irc ports are blocked(this is the first outgoing port I have found to be blocked, I do not if any other ports are blocked).
    4. You have to wait to download from websites like rapidshare as your behind a single static ip address.

I have tested the airtel connection in the wellawatte area, colombo-6

If none of the above matches your case then go for it.

about da disconnecting problem i have several questions.

1.does the connection disconnect when u r browsing or it only happens when you are downloading.

2.for example if you go off for about an hour and come back and start browsing will the connection automatically re establish itself or do you have to do it manually.

AirTel walata Hulan Tel , watha Tel kiyanne Eyi

    Machanla,
Iam Using Airtel Tel BB from 23 January, so this is my view about Airtel BB,

    1. Speed is unstable
( Vary 0KBps to 55KBps ) But most of times It was not more than 15 KBps. I checked their connection speed in various places. Roof top of Five star Hotels in colombo, Twin Towers, Open grounds ( Such as Viharamaha devi park, SSC,Police Park..etc).

    2. Customer Care
a.)Their is no body available who can support to customer problem in first attempt. They learn some details from us.

b.) Their email customer care service also same. ([email protected] ) Its also replying auto generating text most of times. No human reply even after 01 Month. but they said
"We have received your e-mail and we shall revert to you at the earliest."

    3. Coverage
Most of places they have only GPRS or EDGE (2G). No HSDPA (3G). I tested Highlevel Road from Fort to Balangoda. 3G avalable in few towns till Maharagama. After then No 3G Coverage. Even No 2G in some places.

    4. Their billing system
You cant get correct details from thieir billing system by dialing 555 and go to 2nd option (post paid) . Their automated system also lying. Even you contact their costomer care person they also panic about their billing system.

    5. How it's suit for your pocket.
    Yes. actually their charges is Low . 1GB ->300Rs 3GB--> 600Rs Unlimited --> 1499Rs. 1KB --> 1/2 cent
But Dialog you have 2 pay 2cents for 1KB
    Mobitel 1 Cent for 1KB.

    6. Final recommendation
You dont need to bye a HSDPA Modem to connect Airtel BB. if your mobile support for EDGE it is more than enough. Dont expect more than that form Airtel BB.

    Thanks

    Issues...??

Well, I am quite ok with Airtel. It works great in Nawala area.

However, I think the reasons for all the problems is the signal strength...

Check whether you have good signals before buying Airtel BB. Most of my friends does it. I have few friends in Battaramulla, Kaduwela using it with no issue.

However, I must say that their customer care sucks..
