AMD’s Chips Become More Affordable

The world’s second largest manufacturer of x86 central processing units (CPUs) – Advanced Micro Devices – has reduced pricing on a number of its desktop chips. While the price reduction is not really significant, it still improves competitive positions of the company and may catalyze some users to acquire new computers or processors.

The price slash concerns numerous dual-core AMD Athlon 64 X2 models, including 3800+, 4000+, 4200+, 4400+, 4600+, 4800+, 5000+ and 5200+, single-core AMD Athlon 64 3800+, as well as two AMD Sempron models 3200+ and 3000+. The reduction varies from 5% to 27% and as a result of the cost cut volume customers will be able to buy AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ for $295 (instead of $403) and AMD Sempron 3000+ for $41 (instead of $56).

The latest price reduction does not make AMD’s leading edge desktop microprocessors, such as AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ and 5800+ more affordable to end-users: they are still sold for $505 and $485.

AMD’s premium-series Athlon 64 FX processors for the Quad FX platform are also sold for their pricing of $999, $799. $599 a pair for the FX-74, FX-72 and FX-70, respectively.

AMD typically does not release any statements concerning price decreases.

They have too many CPUs of the same family, just like the Pentium 4's by Intel. Very hard to keep track of the prices.

what is the best
Pentium D vs. AthlonX2 ==> Athlon X2 is better
Core 2 Duo vs. Athlon X2 ==> Core 2 Duo is better

Pentium 4 vs. Athlon64 ==> Both have their good areas and bad areas.

754pin normal 64bit price ut down da..
I dont think there r any 754 CPUs in the market except some
semprons.Never buy 754 coz ure lost if u buy a one.No mobos or cpus left.

939?tragedy..Nowhere to find CPUs or MOBOs even they exist in world..

AM2..catastrophic..U cant find a one in whole SL now.PC point brought two AM2 CPUs with some ASUS mobos..Thats the only thing I've heard.Mobo cost 35K.not worth it.I was astonished. When I told that guy I use a MSI K8N Diamond plus he was too astonished.

There is a place @ Ragama who do AMD Athlon 64s.754 and 2800+,3000+ only.Prasadana needs them I'll give u the URL to there
    .
Lack of parts here is the drawback of AMD.I wonder I am the only user of 939 in SL .In Galle Its only me.Soooooo sad thing.
Two use 754 Athlon 64s.near 10~15% use semprons
Some use left out old Athlon XPs.

Ure in a great danger if u use Athlon XP.4 months ago I saw MSI K7N Delta 2 platinum-which was one of my Athlon XP mobo targets- @ mitech for 11.5k!(It came out @ 230 $.)Whoever bought that will be a Athlon XP user who fried his existing mobo.It should be like water in a desert to that buyer. But it is a waste though.

Ask Anusha about places where there r AMDs.He gives visits to Shops rather frequently and he is in Colombo too in a university...
    I'm not in Colombo.

Anyway, when it comes to Athlon CPUs, it's pure chance/luck. You see them one second, and they are gone before you twitch your eye. I even saw AthlonX2 Energy Efficient CPUs at PC House Stores one day. Those are cool CPUs (literally).

EPSI has few AM2 motherboards, but they don't have any CPUs. WTF!!!! Those dumb, blood-suckers....
