Yes you are right. I didn't know it divides work frame wise. I thought maybe top half of a frame on one and the bottom half on another :)
    :)
IMO its the same case on X2's too
so do you still recommend 512MB over 1GB?

Reason for not getting double frame rates when SLI or CrossFire in action is due to the data is striped across cards AFAIK
inevitably there is a performance penalty.. there are frames that needs data from previously processed frames, think the previous frame was processed in 1st card so it takes time to take that data into the 2nd card like wise :)

doesn't cope with rendering afaik :)
i think lag is caused by timing it self

edit-if that the reason it should be like 1x-1.5x over single or less 1x:baffled:

E hinda nemei. You can process more frames at a given time.

The game only sees the frame buffer of the VGA that has the smallest VRAM, and sends data to that frame buffer. But in this case, SLI sends them to both VGAs. It's the identical data.

Stuttering with high FPS could be due to syncing issues.

Like I said, for midrange and low end models of enthusiast grade VGAs (such as GTX260) i think 512MB is enough. 1GB is not required for 4870. But I don't know how it works on the 4870X2. If it is like SLI, then having 2GB is compulsory for those, because only 1GB worth data will be there, with twice the processing power.

    1GB for SLI/XFire :D

One of My friend's have a SLI mobo
Asus one..he uses 8500x2 for SLI,,
One supports SLI other one does not but it has a SLI thingy on the VGA..
When SLI Activated Games are like 5seconds working good, 1 second stuck, and again 5 secs working, keeps on...............Cant Do anything With SLI activated....like lagging,,
Is it coz of the SLI unsupported card?

seems like a driver problem..btw 2 8500s in sli?? is that good ..i mean price to performance wise??

When frames are rendered as Odd and Even among the two GPUs I think data is Striped, and when a single frame is rendered on both GPUs( splits the frame in to 2) data is Mirrored I think:)
yes, there should be a difference on frame buffers when running on alternate frame rendering
, but not all the data :)
