Any advantage using wet sand paper on wood ?

Normally I have used plain or normal sand paper without water to sand wood. I have seen water sand paper used with water on metal, but not on wood.
Is there any advantage in using water sand paper with water (or wet sand paper - that is sand paper specially made to be used with water) to sand wood ?

I’m not sure about the advantages of using wet sand paper, but you can’t really use wet sand paper on wood , can you ?

But on metal or any other water resistant surfaces you can use wet sand paper, perhaps it keeps the dust (sanded off particles) away from clogging up the surface of the sandpaper, so you can use it for longer?? Just a guess.
