    When Kemadasa master passed away, no body in EK turned a hair. And yet this man gets the same kind of respect that was shown to the forces ?

    This being a patriotic SL community site that can bad mouth pakistan for winning a cricket match (when Pakistan was one country that help SL in its time of need) now wants to pay tribute to a singer who probably didnt even know that SL exists ?

    Where's the rational or logic in that ?

    Dude.........you sound more like Athula Siriwardena in this thread, hope you arent gonna take his place :;

    If you wanna treat Kemadhasa & MJ on the same plate, you are mistaken buddy, nor you could compare this with Defence forces during war...............Beethoven or Rambrandt didnt create the same euphoria in Western world when they passed away, as MJ or Elvis did.............it doesnt mean that the Western world respect or love MJ more than Beethoven.........they just two ends of a scale,

    If you were old enough you would remember, Jothipala's & Vijaya's funerals......have you seen the same thing in Kemadhasas funeral? Dont expect it even when WDA's time is up (God forbid, he may live long).................Thts the way people's minds work..........get over it!!!!

    lol i was thinking the same...kemadasa was much more creative thus hard to get into...now no disrespect here, but i don't think mainstream pop fans have much taste in music. at this other thread about his greatness i noticed, ppl trying to assign his king of pop crown to weasles like justin timberlake. and apart from his big image in music scene what this man had done to deserve such respect. he supposedly sexually abused lil kids, he refused to remain the way he was born and changed his skin color, which must have been a disgrace to black americans. this is going to be a big let down to soldiers who were formerly respected and tributed by being mentioned in sigis.

    ya that cricket example is a good one. how many of these guys thought that would be cool, pay respect to kemadasa master at their sigis but mj. yet they can't stand a sri lankan supporting another cricket nation.

    meh, dont you realize that by giving the same tribute that was given to the forces, to MJ, you're actually demeaning the value of that gesture ?
    If the man deserves a tribute, give him one but use some other gesture/method for it.

    Michael Jackson Rewarded For Charity Work In Africa
    The troubled superstar heads to Washington this Thursday to receive an award rewarding him for his charitable work in Africa
    GetImage-DN-3795-1.jpg
    This coming Thursday, April 1st, Michael Jackson, will receive the Humanitarian Award from The African Ambassadors' Spouses Association, AASA, for his worldwide humanitarian efforts, particularly in Africa. The AASA, with members who represent 51 different nations, was founded 26 years ago with the mission to provide assistance to programs benefiting underprivileged children in the 51 participating countries.

    The Guinness Book of Records 2000 edition lists Jackson for the "Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star". The international superstar currently fighting off his own set of problems has given over $50,000,000 worldwide to charities in his lifetime. These include The United Negro College Fund, Childhelp USA, Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation, The Carter Center's Atlanta Project, AIDS Project L.A., Make-A-Wish Foundation, TransAfrica, The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the Brothman Burn Center, Cities and Schools Scholarship Fund, Children's Institute International, and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

    The "We Are The World" project, which he spearheaded with Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie, raised millions helping the hungry in Africa. Jackson regular gives all the proceeds from concert tours to charities. He has donated to UK charitable establishments like Great Ormond St hospital and also to the Prince’s Trust.

    His work in Africa includes financially supporting programs to build and equip hospitals, orphanages, homes and schools. He has also financially supported programs relating to Child immunization, HIV-AIDS, Education and Apartheid.

    Michael Jackson is a true humanitarian, an example to us all. He has devoted much time and money to a wide range of charities. He loves children and takes time out when touring secretly visting sick children. He also has special rooms at his home Neverland for sick and terminally ill children to stay over. He was listed in the 2000 edition of the Guiness Book Of World Records for breaking the world record for the "Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star". It states that Michael Jackson has supported 39 charity organizations either with monetary donations through sponsorships of their projects or by participating in their silent auction.

    We have made an alphabetical list of known charities that Michael Jackson has individualy supported publically throughout his career. Michael Jackson also helped set up Heal The World Foundation, the charities this has supported have not been listed. Read our Heal The World/kids page for details of this foundation.
