The Melrose Place reboot wisely fired Ashlee Simpson after only half a season, but it may have been too little, too late, as the CW may have already decided to cancel the primetime soap after only one season.

According to PerezHilton.com, the CW network is currently negotiating which shows to bring back next season, and Melrose is One Tree Hill dvdnoticeably absent from the list of possible renewals. Despite big buzz around the show before its premiere last fall, Melrose underwhelmed in the ratings and only got worse as the weeks went on. The second half of the season is scheduled to begin March 9, but it appears the CW isn't willing to give the show a second season.

According to AceShowbiz.com, One Tree Hill is also on the chopping block, with the CW reluctant to bring it back for Season 8 because of "messy" contracts. If it were renewed, OTH would likely have to make significant cuts, from slashing its budget to firing cast members, and even then, the show may have toBuffy The Vampire Slayer dvdsswitch to the SoapNet network.

As for CW shows that probably will return next year, you can look forward to another season of The Vampire Diaries, America's Next TopNCIS season dvd Model, Supernatural, Gossip Girl, 90210 and Smallville. Although CW execs are still deciding whether midseason series Life Unexpected will get another shot, its ratings look strong enough to warrant at least one more season.
