I have one, it has been with me for about 2 months now; so far I like it. It runs a slightly newer version of the good old Symbian S60 OS, most of the features and menus are similar to previous S60 N series devices from Nokia (i.e N95), with the exception of high resolution touch screen support. If you are familiar with S60 devices then you'll find 5800 to be as user friendly (perhaps even more due to the touch screen) as any of those.

Nokia 5800 uses resistive touch technology which is not as responsive as capacitive touch technology used by Apple iPhone. Therefore nokia 5800’s UI is not as responsive or quick as the iPhone (I’ve used an iPhone 3G). But it is not bad at all, it is still very usable. However there is a small trick to get better response out of the screen: if you use your finger nail (touch the screen with the finger bent slightly inwards) instead of touching the screen with the tip of your finger, then you can get much better accuracy and response. It is just a small thing, but even if you use it the normal way response is quite good.

Battery life is pretty good too. I use the phone a lot to listen to music over Bluetooth (which is very taxing on the battery), and sometimes use it to make Skype calls with fring over Wi-Fi, even when used extensively it can last more than a day; which IMO is quite good considering all the wireless activity. But if you use it normally (calls only and music over a wired headset) then you can get about 2~3 days easily. Previously I had a Nokia 6110 Navigator and before that a N73, IMO 5800’s battery life is better than both of them (especially when listening to music).

Te camera is the only complaint I have, picture quality is mediocre it is not even as good as the 3.2MP camera of the old N73, which is kind of disappointing considering that N73 came out almost 2 years back. But it is not bad to take an occasional shot here and there, still much better than iPhone’s camera. So I guess its allright, and I'm happy with it... depends on your preference..

Build quality is another department where 5800 could’ve done better; the plastic feeling is little more than what you’d normally expect from a phone in this prize range. But I guess its allright. Since I’ve only used it for 2 months I can’t really comment on the durability, but I feel it will last quite a while. If something goes wrong, you can easily by an extra housing; changing it is not extremely difficult either (though you need to have some experience and patience).

All in all I think it is a pretty good buy, considering the price and features you get. Symbian platform has many applications, therefore I can highly recommend a 5800 for anyone looking for a good touch screen Smartphone (but not too keen on the camera quality)

Then you'll be very happy with a 5800  , cos it has a dedicated audio processing chip that can play music up to 35hrs with a single charge (if used with a wired hedset). Has a customizable equalizer with good bass and treble controls.

Get the latest fring or Nimbuzz aps from their own web sites. I have both working fine on my phone. If you still cant get them to install then backdate the phone (change the date of the phone to an earlier date like 6 months back). After installing you can reset the date.
