There are both government universities and private institutes (accredited by foreign universities) offering IT degrees in Sri Lanka. If we need an educated Sri Lanka; we have to expand both government and private universities. But the problem is some of the private institutes become scams now days. To protect students from those scams there should be some kind of a government body. That body should maintain the proper standards of the private institutes. More or less University Grant Commission can act as this government body.

With out possessing proper A/L results, students select various paths to complete there further education; one solution is to get a degree from a private institute.

These institutes boast about them and also about there previous records. But no one can guarantee these institutes which are here to make profits will return educated outcome to the Sri Lanaka.

On the other hand there are local and international organizations which offer special titles. Any one can get those titles by paying some amount of $.without any Education. For an example, There are people in Sri Lanka possess “Dr “in front of there names without stepping in to a university.

what will happen to the Sri Lankan Education in future? Specially to the IT industry?
Be aware of these kinds of institutes and also these kinds of people.

It is too late to react when we get caught in a SCAM! BE aware!!
AWARENESS is the best solution…

Valuable thread...

I think people have the power nowadays more than any other time of the past to prevent these things....

I also must add.... about those middlemen who offers education courses from various countries saying they are agents of that particular university!

Most reputable universities around the world have thier own agents in other countries that's true, but... they are not suppose to take money from the student.. if they take they must produce a receipt from that particular foreign university! The agent gets a commission from the University... the student does not have to pay such amount of money directly to the agent!

If the person demands please get in touch with that particular university immediately ask about the procedure before hand! And let them know the real situation..

Besides.. my personal opinion.. if you are capable enough.. you do not need a middle man at all.. these days there's internet... go to the particular university you want to enroll (you must first make sure its a registered university in that country, you can check the ministry of education web site in that particular country to know this for sure) download application forms fill them up and send normally they would guide you through the process there after!

How SLans get caught

the first thing these kind of fake institutes talk about is the "skill". they say that "it is the skill that matter"... and our little fools get caught in this and goto these institutes paying tens of thousands of rupees....

how these institutes keep the students they get is through what is called a "thela" (තෙල).... the heads of these institutes are well known thel barrels... they know how to get into a person's mind... this becomes easy when the targeted person is a minor... i knw a case where a 14 year old talks about the quality of a degree... this is the current situation of most of the private institutes...

but the important thing to note is that there are well knwn pvt institutes that have well defined quality standards in their education... just because a person didnt get a good result from the a/l doesnt mean he shouldnt continue further education... but that education should be acquired from a standardized institute...

what Sri Lanka lost from the start was the authority... any d***head with a degree could start his own educational institute... their real intentions were not verified.. now they have caused a significant damage in our education (specially IT education) which will be worse in the future when the people realize they have been fooled after the institute is closed... their degree's wil have no recognition....

this is why when a person looks at the private sector for education he should consider a lot of facts before diving in... in the private sector education means a commodity..it should be promoted, sold and based on market analysis any new promotions will be made or the quality of education will change...

but in the govt sector it is a service.. the govt will not be looking at monetary benefits and therefore will not try to create an artificial dreamworld about any degree... but this can be different in the pvt sector..

although there are many good pvt institutes in sri lanka as i have mentioned above there is an equal number of fake institutes that are pure leeches waiting to suck out every last penny off the student before throwing him out.....
