Indigenous Medicine Minister Tissa Karaliyadda informed Parliament yesterday that three AIDS patients had regained their immune system after Ayurvedic treatment.
The Minister said that a panel of Ayurvedic medical experts conducted this research using five persons, and three of them had regained their immune system.
He was speaking during the Committee Stage Debate on his Ministry's vote.
Mr. Karaliyadda said that his Ayurvedic medical experts are also developing treatment for asthma and cancer as well.
Referring to the incidence of renal failure in the dry zone, he said the problem is worse in areas where chemical fertilizer and insecticides have been used for a long time.
As a result, he proposed that there should be a ban on the use of such fertilizer and chemicals in the agricultural areas.
"Otherwise, there is no purpose in the Health Ministry making allocations," he said.
The Minister said that the high content of fluoride in drinking water is also a factor aggravating this problem.
He said that people many die as a result in Padaviya, Anuradhapura which is his constituency.
"In the Anuradhapura District, I distributed 68,000 sets of clay pots among people. People should be given specially purified drinking water. I request the subject minister to set up a special water supply plant in Padaviya," he said.
He said, "25 years ago people did not die in Padaviya in such a tragic manner." -
